Bright and early on Saturday morning (not like me at all) I pulled up to see Honor dashing across the road sticking her tongue out, (as usual, she’s off her box) and we dashed down the dreaded M62 into what truly is a beautiful city. MANCHESTER <3
After being given the brief of ‘Manchester’ in general, there was only one thing that realistically Honor and I were bound to do, which was to head for the vintage shops! Where better than Afflecks Palace? Situated on Oldham Street in Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter, it was like setting foot into an Aladdin’s Cave! Art focusing on issues such as homophobia and discrimination against the transgender community, and lyrics to Morrisey songs covered the walls, which I love. The ultimate vibe in Afflecks Palace is that anything goes – be you!
Quirky little vintage bargains can be found among the many rails in Pop Boutique, No Angel, and Moloko. I picked up a Motel swimsuit for my trips to Dubai and Mexico for £5. A fiver. Five quids. Brand new with tags, I kid you NOT. You can grab unsold and older stock from the likes of Missguided too, which is also brand spanking and a fraction of the price! Anybody who knows me knows that I do love a bargain..
Heading out of wacky Afflecks, a little further up Oldham Street sits COW, a vintage shop which seems to be pretty well known among fellow bargain hunters. I was desperate for some oversized denim shorts and picked up a great light wash pair by GUESS for £28. Not bad at all! It would be very easy to get carried away in COW, and by this time I was starting to get pretty peckish!
After originally planning to head to Cafe Federal on Nicholas Croft but seeing quite a few people who clearly had the same idea queuing out of the door, we spun around and stumbled upon this little gem on High Street! For a bargain brunch which is served until 4pm, Stovepipe is absolutely ideal. A selection of healthy juices and food options (I opted for eggs benedict) Chesterfield sofas and dim lighting is the best way to describe it. Lush!
I will always opt for comfort over glamour for a shopping day! Sporting a grey oversized tshirt from ASOS (£9), Pimkie mom jeans (£12) and a Stradvarius leather jacket, studded and with tassels of course! (£16) and my Vans (a standard £50) I truly live up to my bargain hunter title. Saturday was all in all a very successful day chatting fashion, blogging and business ideas with Honor. The question is… where shall we head to next?!
