Sunday Roast at Neighbourhood MCR

So, Sunday roasts are a big deal in England. I was so excited and looking forward to trying this ‘lazy and boozy’ traditional meal! Ergo I was delighted when I received the invite to my very first bloggers’ Sunday lunch at Neighbourhood in Manchester. It also has a branch in Liverpool.

Neighbourhood is a restaurant, bar and a club all in one, that caters to all. The place is very attractive with its laid-back, loungey setting that draws in a hip crowd. I loved the stylish touch in their furnishings and the oodles of art all over the walls.

For just £17.50 (excluding service charge), Neighborhood offers diners with a simple choice of sirloin beef, pork belly or half a Goosnargh Chicken. The trimmings include Yorkshire pudding, gravy, tasty sides of carrots, cabbage and crispy roasted spuds. Damn! I couldn’t wait to get started.

We placed our food order and then perused the drinks menu for some exciting Neighbourhood specials. No Sunday roast would really be complete without a glass of wine or cocktail right? Neighborhood has an extensive drinks menu which offers wine, beer, spirits and a variety of inventive cocktail selection.

I chose a Berry Sling cocktail which was a concoction of Absolut Raspberry, Chambord (yum!), berries, vanilla and lime. It was refreshing, deliciously sweet yet balanced.

Bread and dips were served before the mains. I totally loved the pesto dip!

Now let’s dive into the roast – I chose the Goosnargh chicken. It was well cooked, succulent and the flavour was fantastic. I liked the sides – the potatoes were crisp and delicious. The Yorkshire pudding was good with a light springy texture and the vegetables, well-seasoned and appetizing. The gravy was not as thick as I had expected but nevertheless delish. On the whole, the meal was definitely filling and perfect for a lazy Sunday.

The other bloggers also enjoyed their picks. Here’s an image of Elsa’s roast pork belly meal.

Finally to complete the lunch, there was the very attractive hot chocolate bomb. It was one of those chocolate spheres that melt with the pour of hot caramel sauce and falls apart to reveal its tasty center. I loved, loved, loved the rich, chocolate-y gooeyness of the dessert. To contrast the flavour, was a sweetened pineapple piece at the center of the sphere and there was strong essence of passionfruit too. I absolutely enjoyed it.

The service was attentive, informative and very polite. The wait times for our food was a little slow, but other than that, Sunday roast at the Neighbourhood was a relaxed and chilled out experience. I’d thoroughly recommend it.
